India’s first indigenously built fighter jet Tejas crashes

Asia , News , / Friday, November 21st, 2025

By  Analytical Desk / WPM Thursday November 20th 2025 Today an unfortunate incident occurred at the air show in Dubai which also included the air forces of some other countries.  An Indian Tejas series aircraft which was considered one of the best aircraft in the world in terms of its performance suddenly crashed at the beginning of the show.  Aircraft are usually prone to accidents but when there are air shows each country brings its best aircraft and best pilots.  So that it can be appreciated globally on the basis of its better performance.  And if there is a country that assembles its own aircraft it is even more important for it that its aircraft perform better than the aircraft of the countries participating in the competition/show so that it can get new and bigger orders for the supply of aircraft. India was slowly making inroads in this sector.  Recently Armenia is finalizing a $3 billion deal to purchase eight to twelve Indian-made Su-30MKI multi-role fighter jets.  In such a situation the downfall of an Indian aircraft that is considered to be very safe and efficient raises questions about India’s defense capabilities. Developed by Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) the Tejas is India’s first indigenous fighter jet and has been in service for nearly 24 years.  However the engines are sourced from General Electric (GE) of the US.  India’s Teja jet has been competing continuously for the past three days and has been thoroughly maintained after each flight by top Indian engineers. The sudden crash of the aircraft is a surprise because it was a “state and low flight” and there was no smoke coming out of the jet nor did it appear that the engine had failed.  Suddenly during a Negative G Maneuver the jet lost its command like this which is beyond comprehension.  However the truth will come out after the inquiry.  However at a time when India could have received orders for these aircraft this accident has dealt a blow to India.
