Under international law and human rights standards if a prisoner’s medical condition cannot be adequately treated within a correctional facility authorities are obligated to provide access to external medical care. This principle was recently highlighted by Faisal Muhammad an international mediator based in the European Union.Muhammad emphasized that Imran Khan is not only a former Prime Minister of Pakistan but also a world-renowned athlete who represents the identity of both Pakistan and South Asia. He argued that given these circumstances Khan should be granted immediate release for necessary medical treatment.Furthermore Muhammad stated that as global awareness grows regarding the circumstances of Khan’s removal from power and his subsequent imprisonment the primary humanitarian solution remains his immediate release to ensure he receives comprehensive and free medical care.
